Download Analog Data Policy (PDF)
Analog data (e.g., paper records, photos, microfilm, etc.) that were submitted to the old Site Survey Data Bank (SSDB) at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) now reside at the new SSDB located at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). Use of these data is regulated as follows:
- In support of proposals that remain active, and pending availability of IODP-MI funds, previously submitted analog holdings in the SSDB may be scanned, on an as-needed basis. However, the proponents will be responsible for selecting which analog data are needed in order to satisfy SAS reviews and requirements. Proponents are also responsible for entering metadata to describe any scanned objects. Any new data submissions must be in electronic format following the current data submission guidelines.
- For all other use of analog data kept on file in the SSDB, proponents and/or requesters will be responsible for funding the migration of analog data into electronic format and for entering them, with appropriate metadata describing the scanned object(s), into the new all-digital SSDB hosted at SIO. Arrangements to scan a specific list of data objects can be made by contacting the SSDB (ssdb@iodp-mi-sapporo.org). The proponent will be billed by the SSDB at cost for this service.
Requests for scanning will need to refer to specific objects, as identified in an Excel spreadsheet (http://ssdb.iodp.org/documents/LDEO_SSDB_v3.xls) that lists all documents that were transferred from the old SSDB at LDEO. This spreadsheet contains further documentation about its contents.
