Using Analog and Older Digital Data

The Legacy Data search provides a search interface for data, physical objects, and basic proposal and site information submitted before 2005, when the SSDB library was launched. The analog items now reside at the Geological Data Center at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). Use of these data is regulated as follows:

  1. In support of proposals that remain active, and pending availability of funds, previously submitted analog holdings in the SSDB may be scanned on an as-needed basis. However, the proponents will be responsible for selecting which analog data are needed in order to satisfy IODP reviews and requirements. Proponents are also responsible for entering metadata to describe any scanned objects. Any new data submissions must be in electronic format following the current data submission guidelines.
  2. For all other use of analog data kept on file in the SSDB, proponents and/or requesters will be responsible for funding the migration of analog data into electronic format and for entering them, with appropriate metadata describing the scanned object(s), into the current all-digital SSDB. Arrangements to scan a specific list of data objects can be made by contacting the IODP Science Support Office. The requester will be billed by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) at cost for this service.
